03About the work

I'm an Indian American visual artist in Austin. My work starts from something personal — a memory, a piece of my grandmother's fabric, the twirl of a ghagra during garba — and grows into questions about what we keep, transform and reinvent as we become ourselves.

I paint, draw digitally, and build tactile pieces from old clothing, bangles, yarn, ribbon and found objects. I'm drawn to color, movement, pattern and texture — beauty is the doorway. Look a little longer and you'll find the questions underneath: girlhood and womanhood, inheritance and self-definition, perfection and play. By day I'm a product designer; the studio is where I get to make things by hand, without a brief.
